47 Ronin by Joan D. VingeSEIZE ETERNITY
Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin. After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)--a half-breed they once rejected--as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft, and wondrous terrors.
As this exiled, enslaved outcast becomes their most deadly weapon, he will transform into the hero who inspires this band of outnumbered rebels to seize eternity.
Helmed by director Carl Rinsch (The Gift), 47 Ronin is produced by Pamela Addy (Identity Theft, the upcoming Endless Love) and Eric McLeod (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, the Austin Powers series).

Review: ’47 Ronin’ doesn’t quite cut it as a samurai fantasy
Spectacular goofiness should be expected of "47 Ronin," an American film loosely based on the true story of 47 real-life master-less samurai who avenged their disgraced master's death. But in spite of its enjoyable, easy-to-exploit aspects, "47 Ronin" is a big budget spectacle hamstrung by its need to be at once flippant and respectful of its honor-driven source material. This time, Akira sets up Asano for accidentally disrespecting a fighting tournament's 1 rule: only samurai can participate. But Kai is only a "half-breed," as he's repeatedly called, and not a real samurai, and is inevitably caught. The Shogun—"the lord of all Japan," as he's described baldly in an especially tedious bit of exposition—is lenient, so Asano is sentenced to commit seppuku rather than hang "like a common criminal.
If ever a film was in need of an honourable death and a respectful burial it would be 47 Ronin , a cursed samurai epic that features a somnambulistic performance from a shell-shocked Keanu Reeves. It limps into cinemas and falls on its sword with a sigh. Reeves is Kai, a disreputable mixed-race killing machine who rides to the aid of a band of exiled ronin in a mystical feudal Japan. Before long, our hero is slicing ogres, wrestling witches and romancing his lordship's daughter with the selfsame air of irritated bemusement. Meanwhile, ranked alongside him, the ronin represented by a group of estimable Japanese actors have their work cut out tackling reams of expository English-language dialogue.
The public is thus encouraged to consider this most fundamental of Japanese stories from the point of view of a side character, whose presence introduces a fresh theme of racial tolerance along with the more classical aspects of self-sacrifice and honor. After more than a year adrift, these ronin as disgraced samurai are known returned, staging a daring night raid in which they took their revenge, vindicated their master and were ultimately forced to sacrifice their own lives in punishment. Sanada plays Oishi, leader of the desperate group of ronin, who turns to mysterious stranger Kai Reeves for help when planning his coup. To this fantasy-infused telling, Rinsch introduces the notion of witchcraft, casting Rinko Kikuchi as a deliciously evil witch with ambiguous powers. Reviewed at Arclight Cinemas, Hollywood, Dec. Subsequently taken in by the kindly Lord Asano Min Tanaka , Kai falls in love with her daughter Mika Ko Shibasaki , though his outsider status means that they can never marry. Then, a power-hungry rival Lord Kira Tadanobu Asano and his shape-shifting witch sidekick Rinko Kikuchi carry out a cunning plan to frame Lord Asano for murder, allowing Kira to seize control of the former's kingdom. Mika is forced to marry Lord Kira, while Kai is sold into slavery. The story of the 47 ronin has been tackled before several times in film, but never by Hollywood, and certainly not at this budget level. This is unsurprising, since it's an important part of Japanese history, and one of the country's cultural touchstones - taking the tale and shoehorning in an American actor is vaguely akin to a Japanese studio heading to England to make a Robin Hood film with Ken Watanabe cast in the lead. Even the story's characters seem a little perplexed as to where Reeves came from.
