The Last Secret of Fatima: My Conversations With Sister Lucia by Tarcisio Berone

Foreword by Pope Benedict XVI.

With an introduction by Pope Benedict XVI and including information previously suppressed, the Vaticans Secretary of State, Cardinal Bertone, definitively reveals and explains one of the most controversial events in twentieth-century Catholicism--the 1917 apparition of the Virgin Mary at Fatima.

During World War I, three Portuguese children received a vision in which Mary, the Mother of God, foretold great global turmoil. The first part of their vision--warnings about World War II, communism, and the spread of atheism--were widely publicized, but Vatican officials were hesitant to reveals the visions concluding images, thus creating the secret of Fatima. Speculation about this secret gripped many Catholics, and the aura of intrigue surrounding Fatima grew when the Church hierarchy barred the last surviving visionary from speaking publicly.

In The Last Secret of Fatima, Cardinal Bertone, the Vatican equirvalent of prime minister and a top advisor to Pope Benedict, breaks the Vaticans official silence on the last secret. Rather than Armageddon, he claims, the final prophecy envisaged the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. Bertone argues the apparition at Fatima was a call to renewal for the Church, and he was assigned the task of promulgating this message by the Pope.

During the apparitions of Fatima between May and October , the Virgin Mary entrusted three child shepherds with three secrets. The first was a vision of hell that deeply shocked the little children. Since then, they have intensely prayed for the conversion of sinners. Though the vision lasted for only a moment, it was enough to never forget.

What is generally called the Third Secret is the third and final part of the full prophetic Secret which the Blessed Virgin gave to three child seers on July 13, The other two sections of the Secret the vision of Hell and the rise of Communist Russia were publicly revealed with the publication of Sr. The final part of the revelation remains in the possession of the Vatican and has not yet been disclosed to the world. It was under the direct order of her bishop and with the assistance of Our Lady that Sr. Lucy wrote down the third part of the Secret on January 2, Speaking to Sr.

That explains the authorization to tell Francisco. Plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form, Iike transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, floating about in the conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames that issued from within themselves together with great clouds of smoke, now falling back on every side like sparks in a huge fire, without weight or equilibrium, and amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fear. This vision lasted but an instant. How can we ever be grateful enough to our kind heavenly Mother, who had already prepared us by promising, in the first Apparition, to take us to Heaven. The second part is about the devotion and consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to which it is linked the communion of reparation of the first Saturdays , with the special reference of the consecration of Russia, as a way to prevent a new war worse than the one that spread over Europe First World War,

What is the Third Secret of Fatima? Deacon Pedro May 9, Children of Fatima.

The three children claimed to have been visited by the Virgin Mary six times between May and October According to Lucia, on July 13, , around noon, the Virgin Mary entrusted the children with three secrets. Of the hundreds of alleged apparitions the Catholic Church has investigated, only twelve have received ecclesiastical approval, and nine of them occurred between and Cultural anthropologists Victor and Edith Turner , who converted to Catholicism in , at one time viewed the increase in Marian apparition "cults" as a post-industrial reaction of a "disenfranchised lower middle class to a rapidly changing culture". In , she became a postulant at the Dorothean convent in Tui , just across the border in Spain. As early as July , mention was made that the Lady of the apparitions had entrusted to the children a secret, "that was good for some and bad for others".

Now a veil is drawn back on a series of events which make history and interpret it in depth, in a spiritual perspective alien to present-day attitudes, often tainted with rationalism. Throughout history there have been supernatural apparitions and signs which go to the heart of human events and which, to the surprise of believers and non-believers alike, play their part in the unfolding of history. These manifestations can never contradict the content of faith, and must therefore have their focus in the core of Christ's proclamation: the Father's love which leads men and women to conversion and bestows the grace required to abandon oneself to him with filial devotion. This too is the message of Fatima which, with its urgent call to conversion and penance, draws us to the heart of the Gospel. Fatima is undoubtedly the most prophetic of modern apparitions.
