What does Forever Young mean?

The song first appeared in two different versions, one slow and one fast on Dylan's fourteenth studio album Planet Waves A demo version of the song, recorded in New York City in June , was included on Dylan's compilation Biograph. In the notes included with that album, Dylan is quoted as saying that he wrote "Forever Young" in Tucson, Arizona , "thinking about" one of his sons and "not wanting to be too sentimental.

This is one of two reviews of this song on the site. There is a link to the second review at the end of this piece. This is another Dylan song which he has suggested was written in a short time — but there are occasions when he seems to suggest it took him some time to get it as he wanted. Because of that problem for me it is a song that sounds much better in my head than it seems to on the recordings I have. Play "Forever Young" on Amazon Music. Besides being a wish that every parent has for his children, this song is a reference to Bob's strictly Jewish upbringing. Every Friday evening as the Sabbath has started a father would say to his children, " May God Bless and keep you always" May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on everyone Refers to I believe Issac's effort to build a ladder to Heaven. Also, Jesus said " Do unto others as you would have them do to you, Love your neighbors as you love yourself, and before His Ascension told His disciples Love one another as I have love you" This is considered the 2nd greatest commandment! Lastly, Jesus said, accept the gifts I have given you and my words and deeds as a young child would, mainly without any doubt, but with complete innocence!

Lately I have been in a Planet Waves kind of mood. Seems like the albums correlate closely to ways I am feeling in life. I really recommend you taking a listen to the album straight through, the flow of the album highlights the complexities of life, the uncertainty we face — and the range of emotions we go through in life. Dirge to You Angel You is a perfect example.
