Wonderful, loving, peaceful place for reflection and retreat either for a day or overnight. Say hello to Br. Martin and Fr. I absolutely LOVE this place. It is so peaceful. I love the little ponds and all the great hiking trails.
A library is available as well as a wide assortment of audio tapes at Bethany House. Small rooms are available for day use only. Guests are limited to one day per month for use of our day rooms. Reservations are taken up to four months in advance and can be placed by calling between am and pm, Monday thru Friday. A minimum of at least 2 nights is required for a brief stay. Unless the reservation extends throughout the day of departure, check-out time is am.
Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts. The foundation in Pecos was dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe , owing to the Mexican influence in the southwestern U. In March , the monks, not finding farming sufficiently productive in northern New Mexico, sold the property to Benedictine monks and moved the abbey to its present site in Oregon. The forest adds to the spiritual setting for the community, acts as a buffer to neighbors, and allows for cloistered retreat. It is also the basis for a sustainable forestry enterprise that provides income to the monks.
The monks moved here from New Mexico in In order to support themselves, the 25 to 30 Trappist brothers who live here run a hardcover bookbindery, a bakery, a climate-controlled storage facility for local wineries, and a guesthouse. They also lease acres of the property out to local farmers. In , the entire Abbey property became a conservation easement that protects this endangered Willamette Valley habitat. The monastery accepts overnight visitors on retreat but also day visitors who would like to walk their property. Be aware that there are a confusing array of trails shown on the Abbey's map.
