Traveling on the notorious Route 66 is a dream for many. While it takes a lot of time and planning to drive the entire length of the road all 2, miles of it! It was just enough to know that we will be back for more. Update: We did it again going all the way to Oklahoma! Starting the drive on Route 66 from Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon, we happened across some awesome sites that are worth the detour and longer drive times. The most difficult part of this drive is continually rerouting the GPS to stay off of Interstate 40! So I decided to take a 5-day road trip to see the best of Arizona, some of Nevada and a touch of California! After a ton of research and going through it myself, use this guide for your next road trip so you can see some of the best this route has to offer! We are a family four. Kids are 15 and We will be travelling by car from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon and plan to stay one night. The next day we would like to head back to Los Angeles Anaheim later in the day but stay overnight somewhere We would be interested in seeing natural wonders or some semblance of old time America on our way back to LA from Grand Canyon. Sure you'll enjoy the Grand Canyon, but expect to see some other cool sights on the way. A flight to the Grand Canyon from Los Angeles will get you there in just over two hours in the air. However, taking a road trip through the Mohave Desert immerses travelers in the natural beauty, desert culture and Old West history, all culminating in awe-inspiring grandeur when you first peek over the rim. Those familiar with LA know to sneak out of Southern California at times when freeway traffic is lightest, but there are seasonal considerations as well. Tourist traffic peaks in the Grand Canyon area during the summer months, with July seeing more than , visitors to the park. Local hotel rates spike, and reservable campgrounds and park lodges sell out months in advance. There is little autumn foliage to be seen at the South Rim, but the shoulder season brings the most pleasant temperatures and driest weather to the Canyon.
