Until the Twelfth of Never: The Deadly Divorce of Dan & Betty Broderick by Bella Stumbo

This is one of the most extraordinary true crime books of all time, a massive best seller in the 1990s, an Edgar Award winner, but the author Bella Stumbo died in 2002 and it disappeared from print.

It has now just been released on Kindle and is coming back to paperback and hardback print in April / May.

It is a book that divided readers at the time as to whether Betty Broderick was a justified avenging angel in murdering her ex-husband and his new wife, or an out-and-out wacko.

As you read it, it is still very hard to say. Betty Broderick is a fascinating character who seems to inhabit this world but in a slightly different dimension where only her facts are true and only her beliefs are right.

She tells lie after lie after lie about her husband and his new wife, and yet appears to believe exactly what she is saying despite all evidence, and after the divorce she was still living in a $1m+ home and getting the equivalent of $25,000 a month.

Eventually she went down to two consecutive terms for second degree murder.

Read this book. It is breathtaking.

Killer Betty Broderick Admits She's Sorry For 'Evil' 1989 Murder Of Ex-Husband

This is a review on the book Kim wrote with a forward from Kim herself on how she didn't want the book to be released I feel sorry for Kim it didn't work out the way she wanted it to This is an article in People magazine about Betty, and how she did what she did "for her kids" and how she blames Kim for being in prison. And people have sympathy for this woman SMH. I'm thinking with all the likes and new comments I'm getting on this page today, the Betty Broderick movies must have been on last night. This is some more testimony against Betty, about how she would always talk about killing Dan. OK, I just found this article, and it suggests that Betty murdered Dan for a life insurance policy that went into effect 2 months before he was murdered.

Lee testified that her father had cut her out of his will because she had drug problems. This is a common reason for parents to cut their kids out of their estates. They are afraid that if their kid gets the money, they'll use it to indulge in drugs which will either kill them or land them in prison. Dan had mentioned his concern to friends on numerous occasions. The girls are the older children, the younger boys were the custody dispute. The dispute over Lee was who had to take her, I think she was 17 and wild.

After 17 years of marriage and four children, her husband, Dan, told her that he wanted a divorce. He then married his 20something secretary, Linda. The split sent Broderick into a tailspin. Finding him and his new wife, Linda, in bed, she opened fire. Two bullets hit Linda in the head and chest, killing her instantly; one bullet hit Dan in the chest.

After a second trial, she was convicted on December 11, of two counts of second-degree murder, and later sentenced to 32 years to life in prison. Her mother was Irish-American and her father was Italian; he founded a plastering firm with his brothers. She was raised in an "aspirational" family, one not born to affluence but trying hard to achieve upper-middle-class status via business success, education, and assiduous attention to proper manners and behavior.

Yah, that pretty much covers it nicely. Excellent commentary!!! If I was on the jury she would have walked or gotten manslaughter I her ex and his lover got what they deserved. This is my second time reading this book. First time I was going through a divorce -- after 19 years husband left for a 22 year old who he said "would solve all his problems and that she was like the thunderbolt mentioned in the GODFATHER". I don't advocate killing though I think both Dan and Linda were shits.
