Punk Rock Jesus by Sean Gordon MurphyA New York Times Bestseller!
A reality TV show starring a clone of Jesus Christ causes chaos across the U.S. of the near future in PUNK ROCK JESUS, a new graphic novel written and drawn by Sean Murphy, the acclaimed illustrator of JOE THE BARBARIAN and AMERICAN VAMPIRE.
J2 causes both outrage and adulation. Religious zealots either love or hate the show, angry politicians worry about its influence on the nation, and members of the scientific community fear the implications of cloning a human being at all, let alone the Son of God.
Thomas McKael is the cloness bodyguard and former IRA operative, who despite his turbulent past is hired to protect the new Jesus—a baby who captivates the world, but grows up to become an angry teenager.
When falling ratings force the network to cut Jesuss mother from the series the young star runs away, renounces his religious heritage and forms a punk rock band. And what starts off as babysitting for Thomas becomes an epic battle, as Jesus goes to war against the corporate media complex that created him.
Along with his artistic credits on JOE THE BARBARIAN and AMERICAN VAMPIRE: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, Murphy also wrote and illustrated the graphic novel OFF ROAD (Oni Press), and cowrote OUTER ORBIT (Dark Horse Comics).

Attending that crusade brought life changing results to both of her parents. Returning home full of spirit and enthusiasm, Ralph was invited to attend a prayer meeting. His host showed him a black and white line drawing called "The Laughing Christ. When Wheatley died, the United Church of Canada acquired rights to the drawing. I wanted others to have it. I knew how I could do it, by making a screen print of it. For years he also played accordian in a country music band.
Traditionally, Jesus is depicted as having long hair, blue eyes and white skin, despite being born in the Middle Eastern Judea region. Richard Neave, a retired medical artist from the University of Manchester, first released the image in - but the depiction has recently returned to prominence online. And the result looks nothing like the golden-haired, fair-eyed, pale-skinned chap we recognise from traditional Sunday school portraits. Neave and his team then used computerised tomography to create X-ray slices of the skulls to gather complex data about his facial structure, muscles and skin. They then created a cast of the skull using layers of clay and modelled the nose, lips and eyelids to follow the shape determined by the underlying muscles. Given Jesus worked outdoors as a carpenter until he was about 30, Neave and his team reckon he was more muscular and fit than Western portraits suggests, with a weather-beaten face which made him appear older. Neave stressed that his recreation of Jesus, first published in Popular Mechanics in January , is simply that of an adult man who lived in the same place and at the same time.

Despite never leaving Chicago, Warner Sallman influenced how many Christians the world over, for better or worse, picture Jesus. The truth is that religious images can serve all these purposes. Sallman was a freelance illustrator and a devout member of the Swedish Evangelical Covenant Church. That number multiplied exponentially when reproductions started appearing on clocks, lamps, buttons, laminated Bible verses, music boxes and night-lights.

The race and appearance of Jesus has been a topic of discussion since the days of early Christianity. Various theories about the race of Jesus have been proposed and debated. Now these documents are mostly considered forgeries. A wide range of depictions have appeared over the two millennia since Jesus's death, often influenced by cultural settings , political circumstances and theological contexts. These images are often based on second- or third-hand interpretations of spurious sources, and are generally historically inaccurate.
