Jazz from angus thongs and perfect snogging
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging: Top Gossip!. by Louise RennisonAngus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging is based on a diary of the 14-year-old teenage girl growing up in England. Georgia Nicolson lives with her parents, her younger and annoying sister, and her exotic cat Angus. Even though her life is extremely normal, it is also incredibly boring. During the novel, Georgia spends a little too much time focusing on the fact that all of her friends have boyfriends and she doesn’t. She believes that she’s still stuck in a little girl’s mind set while all of her friends are mature. Until Georgia goes to a party and meets the most handsome boy she has ever seen. Even though she went to the party dressed as a stuffed olive, the boy still seemed to keep an eye on her. His name was Robbie, and he was the ultimate mature man who was handsome and gorgeous, and she knew he would never like a girl like her.
Georgia thought that there were so many things wrong with her. She hated her nose, she hated her body, and she hated her home life. She knew that she had to clean up her act if she wanted to impress Robbie when school came around, so she went through intense measures to make herself seem more mature and womanly. She bought a bra, plucked her eyebrows, took milk baths and wore make up and pencil skirts.
Throughout her adventures, her best friend Jas actually got a boyfriend. Georgia pretended to be happy for her but in reality she was extremely jealous. Jas and Georgia began to drift apart and they ended up splitting apart. There was a point in the novel where Georgia’s life was a downward spiral and everyone hated her. In the end, Georgia got her best friend back, got her first kiss, and got Robbie.
This book was very good but very predictable. It is a typical story about a girl who got her way. It was very cute and romantic and it was definitely an enjoyable read. It had all of the elements of a good book like a climax and a rising action. I would recommend this book for pre-teens who could relate their lives to Georgia’s. The overall message was happy and hopeful. All in all, it was a great book and it deserves five stars.
