Does Christmas really celebrate the birthday of Jesus? Was He born on December 25th? Stop and think! We were born into a world filled with customs. Without asking questions, we have blindly assumed its observance must be one of the principal teachings and commands of the New Testament.

Where did it come from? Did you know December 25 was the concluding day of the pagan winter festival called the "Saturnalia"? Where did "Santa Claus" come from? The "Christmas tree"? How did this pagan feast become connected with "Christianity"?

Tis the season to be.. We all love Christmas, but how much do any of us actually know about why Christmas is the way it is? Smarten up! Christmas supposedly marks the birth of Jesus Christ on December But there is no mention of December 25 in the Bible and most historians actually believe he was born in the spring. December 25 was probably chosen because it coincided with the ancient pagan festival Saturnalia, which celebrated the agricultural god Saturn with partying, gambling, and gift-giving. Many of the popular Christmas traditions today found their roots in Saturnalia: Branches from evergreen trees were used during winter solstice as a reminder of the green plants that would grow in spring when the sun gods grew strong.

I love Christmas and ever since I was a child my family has celebrated it as a religious holiday.

Christmas is celebrated in many countries all over the world and in a wide variety of ways. Many of the customs and decorations we use to make the holiday special have developed in interesting ways and their origins may be hidden in history. The image of Santa Claus flying his sleigh began in and was created by Washington Irving, the same author who dreamt up the Headless Horseman. The Montgomery Ward department store created Rudolph the Reindeer as a marketing gimmick to encourage children to buy their Christmas coloring books. The original Rudolph did not have a red nose. To complete the original picture, he was almost named Reginald or Rollo.

    The plain truth is, Christmas is NOT Christ's birthday at all! to observe and celebrate Christ's birthday, He would not have so completely hidden the exact date.
