Scripture about forgiveness and moving forward
Putting Your Past in Its Place: Moving Forward in Freedom and Forgiveness by Stephen ViarsLives grind to a halt when people don’t know how to relate to their past. Some believe “the past is nothing” and attempt to suppress the brokenness again and again. Others miss out on renewal and change by making the past more important than their present and future. Neither approach moves people toward healing or hope.
Pastor and biblical counselor Stephen Viars introduces a third way to view one’s personal history—by exploring the role of the past as God intended. Using Scripture to lead readers forward, Viars provides practical measures to
understand the important place “the past” is given in Scripture
replace guilt and despair with forgiveness and hope
turn failures into stepping stones for growth
This motivating, compassionate resource is for anyone ready to review and release the past so that God can transform their behaviors, relationships, and their ability to hope in a future.

Why should God let you into Heaven?
Sometimes the hardest thing for us to do after we've done something wrong is to forgive ourselves. We tend to be our own harshest critics, beating ourselves up long after others have forgiven us. Yes, repentance is important when we're in the wrong, but the Bible also reminds us that it's important to learn from our mistakes and move on. The book has much to say on the subject of self-forgiveness. Our God is a forgiving God.
What does the Bible say about? Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Christians are a new creation through Christ. Your old life is gone. Imagine if Peter, Paul, David, and more never moved on from their past. They would not have went on to do great things for the Lord. Set aside that extra baggage, it will only slow you down on your walk of faith. How much more will the blood of Christ cleanse you of all unrighteousness? If you are running a race you are not going to keep on looking behind you.
