Iron John: A Book About Men by Robert Bly
In this deeply learned book, poet and translator Robert Bly offers nothing less than a new vision of what it is to be a man.Blys vision is based on his ongoing work with men and reflections on his own life. He addresses the devastating effects of remote fathers and mourns the disappearance of male initiation rites in our culture. Finding rich meaning in ancient stories and legends, Bly uses the Grimm fairy tale Iron John, in which the narrator, or Wild Man, guides a young man through eight stages of male growth, to remind us of archetypes long forgotten-images of vigorous masculinity, both protective and emotionally centered.Simultaneously poetic and down-to-earth, combining the grandeur of myth with the practical and often painful lessons of our own histories, Iron John is a rare work that will continue to guide and inspire men-and women-for years to come.Iron John - 3 of 4 - 25th Anniversary Storytelling
Iron John : a book about men

Upped my decades old rating by half a point 0. The re-read was well worth it. One might observe Bly anticipated the metoo moment. I read this in I didn't like it much then.
BLY, uses a fairy tale full of code to enlighten the reader about 'how to live ones life' As old 'Growth' stories are meant to be used in society, I think a brilliant book, for men who are wondering about their lifes path and where is it leading? Or midlife crisis work. I consider it important for the growth into maturity for men and suggest another book to be studied after Iron John. I had to pick up Iron John a second time as I became bogged down about halfway. January 2, History. By Robert Bly. Go to the editions section to read or download ebooks.
