Knock knock whos there not sally
Knock Knock Whos There? by Sally GrindleyThis is a the story of a little girl who cant sleep. Scary characters keep knocking at her door; a giant, a dragon, a witch and a ghost. But they all have something in common, they are all wearing daddys slippers...
This story has a good underlying message to children, it tackles fears they might have at bedtime, but sends them the message that these strange mystical creatures they are afraid of are not real, and a caring grown-up will always be nearby if we are afraid. I read this story to nursery children and found that they liked the different characters which seemed to appeal to all genders and tastes. For example, the some seemed to like imitating the cackling witch, and others liked the fierce dragon; all enjoying repeating the actions and words of the story through play.
This is also a good story to introduce in book week, particularly if there is a fancy dress day because they are a variety of different characters which they children can chose to dress up as creatively.

Next time there's a wicked old witch at the door, then a creepy ghost, then a fierce dragon. Each time there's a knock at the door, there's a different monster, but each time they're wearing the same tartan slippers.
